Looking for an adventurous country in Africa where you can spend your holidays? Uganda is one of the best destinations on the continent, offering a wide range of experiences to travelers.

Located in the Eastern part of Africa, Uganda is a landlocked country bordered by a number of countries; Kenya in the east, South Sudan to the north, the Democratic Republic of Congo to the west, Rwanda to the southwest, and Tanzania to the south. With a total area of 241,038 square kilometers, the country is home to hundreds of attractions, including cities, national parks, reserves, wildlife centers, and monuments. Lakes and rivers, and many others.

While exploring Uganda, there are things that one can do for a memorable encounter, and among these include;

Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest and Mgahinga Gorilla National Park

Gorilla trekking is one of the best encounters that attracts travelers from various countries. The activity involves watching the endangered mountain gorillas in their natural habitat at a closer distance in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and Mgahinga Gorilla National Park. Bwindi Impenetrable Forest is home to roughly half of the world’s remaining mountain gorilla population, seen within their natural habitat at a closer distance. Bwindi Impenetrable National Park protects four gorilla sectors – Buhoma, Ruhijja, Rushaga, and Nkuringo, while Mgahinga has only one gorilla family known as Nyakagezi.

Note: The gorilla trekking experience is done after the purchase of a gorilla permit at USD 800 per person per trek.

Visit Murchison falls in Murchison Falls National Park

As you plan a trip to the Pearl of Africa, Murchison Falls National Park should be one of the top destinations. While at the park, witness the dramatic Murchison Falls, where the Nile squeezes through a narrow gorge of 7 meters, creating a powerful waterfall. Standing as the largest national park in Uganda with a surface area of 3,893 square kilometers, the park also boasts diverse wildlife, like about 76 mammal species, 450 known bird species, and beautiful landscapes.

Take a Boat Safari in Queen Elizabeth National Park

Kazinga channel, a section of Queen Elizabeth National Park, provides a unique and excellent experience to the visitors of the park. It is a water channel connecting Lake George and Lake Edward together, and it is known as the best place for boat cruising activity. Conducted for only 3 to 4 hours (morning and afternoon), the cruise on the Kazinga channel provides a clear view of different animals like crocodiles, hippos, elephants along the shores, and numerous bird species. Apart from a boat cruise, there are also other activities in Queen Elizabeth National Park, including lion tracking, game drives, and others.

White Water Rafting on the Nile

Done in the city of Jinja, the source of the Nile River, white water rafting is another experience in Uganda that attracts hundreds of travelers in the country. White water rafting on the Nile’s powerful rapids is an exhilarating experience, which is done after an orientation about the safety and what is expected to be done during the experience. After, you are given an opportunity to choose among the different levels and the routes to use, and then proceed with the experience after signing a form with the details about any ailments.

Hiking in the Rwenzori Mountains

Known as the “Mountains of the Moon,” the Rwenzori Mountains offer breathtaking hiking opportunities with stunning landscapes, glaciers, and unique flora and fauna. The mountains stand as the third-highest mountain in Africa, and then the highest in Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo. With six massifs, the summit of the mountain, Margherita at 5,109 meters, is found on Mount Stanley, the highest massif/range.

Go Chimpanzee Tracking in Kibale National Park

Chimpanzee tracking involves trailing through the park’s rainforests in search of the endangered chimps led by the lead of the game rangers. The activity is mostly done in Kibale forest national park, also known as a primate world due to its high concentration of primates, especially chimpanzees. Guided walks allow you to get up close to these playful creatures and other primates like colobus monkeys, blue monkeys, baboons, and a number of bird species.

Explore Kampala City

Uganda’s capital and largest city, Kampala, offers a mix of modernity and traditional culture. Visit local markets, historical sites, and cultural centres to immerse yourself in the local way of life. You can explore Kampala in different ways! For the best experience, you can obtain a Uganda car rental and try driving yourself through Kampala, the most difficult to drive through in East Africa. You can also jump onto a boda boda and explore the inaccessible downtown of Kampala. You can also explore Kampala Central Business district by foot on a walking tour.

Hike Sipi Falls

Located on the slopes of Mount Elgon, Sipi Falls is a series of three waterfalls surrounded by lush greenery at the edge of Mount Elgon National Park near the Kenyan border. The falls are a great spot for hiking, birdwatching, and enjoying panoramic views in Uganda.

Relax on the shores of Lake Victoria

Situated in the Eastern Central part of Africa, Lake Victoria is the largest lake in Africa, spanning across the three countries of Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania. The lake is known as the principal source of the Nile, the world’s longest river, flowing towards the Mediterranean Sea through Egypt.

While at the lake, enjoy a good time along the different islands since it is known for encompassing several amazing islands, like Ssese Island. Take part in different activities like swimming, quad biking, fishing, and many others.

Visit the source of the Nile

Located in Jinja, visiting the source of the Nile – the longest river in the world is one of the best encounters during the Uganda safari. Consisting of the White Nile and Blue Nile, the River Nile stretches over 6,000 kilometers before reaching the Mediterranean Sea. As you visit the source of the Nile, you will witness the beginning of the ancient river that flows through Uganda from north to south.
